    Following the thread on H/C seems to have defined the two sides.

    For mine, its a vexatious topic needing a clear head.

    My contribution to the debate goes to your comment:

    "So There is no way we can get rid of immigration (of course legal immigrants). Australia is not US. We live closer to Asia than any other western countries. We need to assist them to get rid of terrorism."

    There's a seductive simplicity in that which I believe, belies the facts.

    Asia DOES NOT see us as part of it. Regardless of what we think.

    Take the 1996 EU/ASEAN conference. Australia not only not included - not even invited as an interested guest.

    Then there's Mahatir's position that Australia WILL NOT be part of Asia until - ready for this -"until 65-70% of the population is Asian".

    If that's the agenda - count me out.
