attraction to the majors

Only a few months ago CVI looked as though it was going to be a company that was to prove up resources to then sell to the majors or be taken over.

IMO, this could still be on the cards, but it will have to take the form of a large holding in CVI before clawback.

The majors have plenty of brownfields developments to look after and large greenfields of their own. However to maintain market dominance/ profitablity of resources the have to stake claims in projects coming online. Take FMG's bold diversification of taking URI out before it even had it's IPO. And FMG is not a major...yet.

SMY for those not familiar with it, has a satellite project called Jump-up-Dam which will provide the necessary cashflow to bring the enormous Kalgoorlie Ni Project (KNP)online. Once SMY had proven part of this resource CVRD and BHP took a 20% stake each. And this was not until the SP of SMY had exceeded $1 and well into the $2 range as well. SMY is around $5.

1m tonnes of highly prospective Cu may prompt a similar move as we get closer to JORC.

All just a mental exercise as with comparison of any companies.
