Not sure the geographic proximity of uranium supply to the submarine base makes any difference at this stage. Nuclear subs don't use unrefined yellowcake as fuel, so we'd need to still ship the unrefined uranium offshore for enrichment processing before it could be used as fuel for the small reactors onboard submarines.
Different matter If the Australian govt got its act together...if so, they could possibly help fund and licence someone like Silex to use their unique technology and make nuclear fuel enrichment an Australian export industry.
But that may be expecting too much vision and commonsense from our current crop of political "leaders".
