For much of the 90's and early into the noughties my parents were paid by a prominent Melbourne Eastern Suburbs Real Estate Agent to attend open houses, dummy inspections (for new listings) and bid at auctions.
I don't know if this practice still goes on today but it was rife ten years ago.
