Forget the aussie$
it is not the strength of the aussie but rather the weakness of the greenback (ie look at the changes in the AUD$ vs. Euro or AUD$ vs Yen)
There has been a major reversal in the past few years from the huge capital inflows to the US to gain exposure to the "new economy" ie tech
This left old economy countries such as australia which primarily produce commodities and not value added products to be deserted as investors chased the booming US markets
As more and more doubts remain as to the strength of the US markets investors are increasingly looking to different markets of which to place their money resulting in capital outflows and increasing the US defecit on the national accounts.
Also consider interest rate differentials US 1.75% and Australia 4.75%
The Aussie is not strong rather the unsustainable strength of the US is declining. look back ten years at the Aussie and a 60c level is still a long way from those levels
