There have been stories for some time that Apple will ditch the headphone jack on the next iPhone.
This will make the introduction of digital speakers easier.
If you going to put a digital speaker in your phone you wouldn't want to keep the DAC just so you can drive the legacy headphone jack. This will help prepare the phone buying public for future phones without any analog output.
