Purchasing these subs is not sabre rattling by Scotty, people that know what they are doing unlike Scotty, Sleepy Joe or you or I made this decision. this option has been looked at multiple times in the past and makes sense compared to diesel subs for a multitude of reasons, even removing the Chinese dictatorship. We have a huge EEZ that can be patrolled much more effectively and more economically by nukes than by limited endurance diesels for one. I dare say we will be buying an off the shelf sub, more than likely from the UK, so we wont have the teething problems that both the oberons and collins have been plagued by, aswell as the 50% cost overrun on the Attacks before they were even built.
