as a defensive strategy it fails as it makes us a more important target for aggression.
I've argued before that to be an effective deterrent to aggression we need multiple vehicles which can present a serious threat to any nearing our shores. the Indonesian islands through to PNG provide a barrier making sea drones, both above and below the water, a more effective deterrent.
if we maintain a benign neutrality in the region and further toward China we'll be less likely to ever face such a threat.
nuke subs will simply make us a more important target imo.
