    Absolutely.
As you rightly say, No more local automotive manufacturing, get rid of the associated Australian standards / ADR's.
it is now un-necessary waste and duplication that will only cost the consumer.
Replace it with one of the major's - Euro/Asian preferably, RHD & Metric.

I'd like to see politicians complete something properly, instead of half arsed, tried to appease and find middle grounds and focusing on manufactured consent to war half a world away. Spose it just adds believe in their minds of the need for bullet proof BMW limos for terrorists threats that are now proven real.....

    While they are at it,
Remove the luxury car tax. and other various duties. I can buy a porsche for $200K US stateside or $450K Aud locally.

Banana's to those that allow this. small population and large country is no excuse any more. Spares and tech support are needed for other 300 different brands, some allowance is acceptable granted but 100% ?

NZ are leading the way here, national imports down and exports up YoY.

Car and fuel production gone, now let the consumer reap the cost and tax benefits.

The cynical would say, hang on, where meant to focus on the war half a world away and the terrorist threat not this local policy stuff.....
