IMO the only mistake that Assange made was not redacting sensitive info from the files pre publishing that may have endangered the lives of US intelligence or their associates overseas.
Of course, courts should judge that on outcomes and there is no evidence that US intelligence personnel or their associates have been killed/emprisoned as a result of Wikileaks .
