Having worked in Canberra for a few months, I fully agree with the views here.

Clarification on Wind power costs. Irrespective of the size of land mass electricity consumption is low in terms of grid power demand/installed power. Hence the requirement to have 2.5 times demand as installed capacity adds to the cost. Also due to geographic nature of Australia, they need to have atleast 50% demand on hot spinning reserve mode to cater for any sudden wind speed drops or increases.

Coal power is cheap when fully loaded to the rating. Abnormally expensive and Greenhouse Gases intensive on hot spinning reserve mode.

On the other hand for China, it suits due to the nature of grid composition and demand pattern.

For Australia, nuclear power is the best option though public do not like it due to misinformation and the spectacular failures like recent events in Japan.

Rare earths is not only into wind turbines but other green uses too. So on that score LYC should do well.
