MSB and Kentgrove may use this to grab a chunk of MSB

What is it?

The BTF will:

• support the development of biomedical ventures in Australia to achieve significant national health and economic outcomes;
• provide Commonwealth capital to competitively selected private sector fund managers, who will secure at least matched private capital to find and invest in biomedical start-ups with potential for commercialisation;
• build an important bridge over the ‘valley of death’, a period in the research pipeline where great ideas can be lost due to lack of market funding;
• commit $250 million over two years (2016-17 and 2017-18) that will be at least matched with private capital to create a $500 million package of commercialisation support for great Australian biomedical ideas;
• be implemented by the Innovation and Science Australia BTF Committee, chaired by Mr Peter Wills AC;
• complement the Medical Research Future Fund and fast-track investments into biomedical innovations; and
• help to bring to market the next great Australian biomedical discoveries, like the Gardasil cancer vaccine or cochlear medical device.
