Doing very well in the Sailing a few chances, cheers

Craig Heydon, Friday, 3 August 2012
After three days of competition at the LONDON 2012 Olympic Games, Australia’s sailors are leading the way in the 49er, Laser and Women’s Match Racing classes.

World Champion 49ers Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen have hit the lead in their class following six consistent races, while five-time World Champion and 2010 ISAF Rolex Sailor of the Year Tom Slingsby is a close second in the Laser class.

Also on top is Australia’s Women’s Match Racing team of Olivia Price, Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty, who are unbeaten with eight wins from eight starts.

Multiple World Champion 470 racers Malcolm Page and Mathew Belcher, who are hot favourites to take out the Gold, commence their campaign later today (AEST). Page, who won Gold in Beijing with then partner Nathan Wilmot, is aiming to become the first Australian sailor to successfully defend an Olympic title.

There are also strong medal hopes for Elise Rechichi (who won Gold in 2008) and Belinda Stowell (who won Gold in 2000) in the 470m when they start their campaign on Day 7 (Friday August 3).

During the LONDON 2012 Olympic Games Foxtel will broadcast an unprecedented 16 hours of live coverage of the Sailing, with every single medal race shown live and in full as well as daily coverage of the preliminary races.
