"In today's Fin (Perspective section) there is an article on the Australian biotech sector, "Australian biotech booms at last".

The opinions of Scientia Capital's Lawrence Gozlan and Bell Potter's Stuart Roberts are canvassed.

Gozlan, described as a 'professional cynic' and "one of the country's most successful investors in the life sciences", says

"The first wave of biotech saw the likes of CSL, Cochlear and Resmed take off on the world stage. I think a second wave is on the way."

He says that this year is shaping up for a stellar run and that, over the next three years "there's a lot of interesting innovation coming out and some will make it all the way."

Roberts predicts "This is a boom in the making."

The article doesn't try to tip specific stocks; it is more about tipping the sector. However it does provide a list of all ASX listed companies capitalised at more than $50 m.(and that, of course, includes POH).

Another point of interest in the article is the observation that there is a "shifting of the biotech ecosystem - once entirely focused on the US - outward toward Europe and Australia." Astra Zaneca's Australian MD says his company ranks the Australian biotech industry in the top four globally when searching for new investments and joint ventures."
