JC you won't find many WA wheat growers who lament the loss of the Single Desk. We have gone from receiving a $10-20/t discount to the East Coast pricing with the Single Desk to year in year out receiving a $20/t premium over with the abolition of the Single Desk. That has been the difference to being able to remain farming for many families.
Another Wheatbelt wide 20-50mm out of recent rains (Saturday until yesterday). A close neighbour has had 80mm since dropping his hay. Uncharted territory on pricing there. Malt barley crop could be facing statewide downgrade to feed.
Not sure what is going to happen to wheat quality just yet. Black point could be a risk in some of the susceptible varieties. Swathed canola is also another uncertainty.
