Further widespread rainfall across the Wheatbelt 25-50mm. There was already widespread reports of downgraded wheat prior to this event. Rain is forecast every day for the next 3-4 days. If I was an East Coast cocky with any unsold quality grain, I would cling to it for a rally on quality.

Won't be much malt barley out of the State's barley crop. Yields are big. Hearing some as high as 5-6t/ha. That is a record breaker. Not a huge barley area though.

Still plenty trying to pick up swathed canola. This rain could be very troubling depending on whether the swaths can dry.

A lot of hay baled but some still on the ground. Some sad stories about ...

The use of falling numbers machines will be ramped up and further slow an already likely long harvest.

The sell down of quality grains is well overdone. The other major problem for the traders over here is ships are booked to arrive and farmers will wait until harvest is done to allocate to contracts. It has the potential to get ugly for the traders who will have significant shipping daily rates to cover while waiting to get their fill. And they will have booked to move the quality end of the crop first.

The noodle situation is an interesting one. By now, Japan and South Korea will have essentially used all of last year's noodle inventory and were hoping to not only see some early shipments come out of WA, but also assumed there would be plenty of noodle quality wheat. The problem being if there are sprouting issues as I am hearing there could be once again bugger all noodles yet again and the basis there could once again completely explode. And once again farmers will leave there grain warehoused until they are clear how there harvest has performed quality wise before allocating to contracts.

Perfect storm brewing for quality wheat and barley. We got it last year. East coast lads could get it this year. Good luck and don't give your grain away cheaply ...
