Anyone who holds an Australian Passport and who has worked overseas will tell you that there are a huge number of benefits to being a non tax resident. Other expats I work with (EU nations, the US in particular, Canada) can't believe the situation Aussie Expats find them selves in: - No income tax liabilities - No CGT on equities - A great deal on housing/ investing fees for owning property.
They usually get shafted big time, we benefit greatly. The question is: when you can visit whenever you want, you are not stuck with an outrageous cost of living, incompetent governments,your friends and family can come and visit you.... why would you not go overseas to work (or live?) - particularly somewhere significantly cheaper than Australia?
