    Depends on the circumstances. A battery powered truck can use regenerative braking and get most of the energy back into the battery when it brakes. In heavy "stop and go" traffic that would be more efficient than using liquid fuels. Likewise in very hilly or mountainous areas, going downhill most of the energy spent going uphill can be recovered. Again probably more efficient than using liquid fuels.

    Over long hauls at steady speed, liquid fuels, would definitely have the advantage. Urban hills almost certainly favors electric drive and batteries. Alternatively, some locations would benefit from overhead electric wires. Many mine sites in Africa use electric trucks connecting to overhead wires. A number of Australian mines are adopting similar systems.
