Liquid fuels have the big advantage they don't have to carry their "oxidizer" around with them so around half their energy they get from the atmosphere for free with no weight disadvantage. Battery powered electric vehicles do have some advantages with regenerative braking and the ability to better match power coupling to motion (i.e. same as electric locomotives). I can see electric vehicles becoming dominant in highly trafficked cities, but it would be a long time before they could compete in long distance haulage. There they would also be competing with fundamentally more efficient rail, which is also easier to electrify.
