I am going to give you some real life figures.

My racebike 0-210kph, not in a hurry, ie approx1.5 miles..... well under 1litre of fuel.
My racebike 0-200 kph in 1/4 mile..... 11.2 seconds, ..... (60ft @100kph less than 2 seconds) .....3.3 litres of fuel.

Power = Work / Time

or

Work (moving an object) = Power * Time

Halve the time you need to double the power to move the same mass
