re: guess_work The size of the first gold pour is not much of an indicator. Usually the company pushes hard to get the first bar out just so the market knows the plant is fully operational. However the size of bar is not connected to how well the mine is running.

Basically the market will be looking for the first signs of good performance such as:

grade reconcilations - actaul grade v reserve estimate
mill throughput
operating costs

To get a true indication of the above three factors you will need a full quarter of full capacity operations. However some mines will give an update after a month or so, but not all.

The drop in GTM share price is a little unusual as this is the period in which the best price run occurs. perhaps this is an indicator that early ore zones mined may not be up to scratch??? Only guessing here.
