THE Rudd Government, in trying to back up the Prime Minister's promise to bring down grocery prices, is finding just how difficult that is.
A six-month inquiry has surprised no one by finding supermarkets have increased their 'margins' and that farmers think it has been at their expense.
Like the car drivers who think they are being ripped of as fuel prices soar, they are not happy.
The Government's response to rising grocery prices has been much the same as its response to fuel prices and will introduce Grocery Choice alongside FuelWatch.
Shoppers, like motorists, will be able to watch as prices go up. However, the Government will consider making unit-pricing compulsory, which will make it easier for consumers to compare purchases.
