AN AUSTRALIAN man is believed to have been arrested in Bali with 1.7kg of the drug ice in his luggage.

Details are still sketchy but police say the man is Michael Sacatides, 43, and that he had arrived in Bali today on a flight from Bangkok and that the drugs were inside his suitcase.

An x-ray of his luggage showed the suspicious packages which were then opened.

It is understood Sacatides, whose passport lists him as being born in Wentworthville, Sydney was working in Bangkok as a kickboxing instructor.

If indeed he is involved, he would face charges which carry the death penalty for importing a type one narcotic into Indonesia.

Sacatides is currently being interrogated in the Immigration office at the Ngurah Rai International airport.

According to sources he has told police that the suitcase containing the drugs was given to him by an Indian man in Bangkok.
