I'm going to wade in here 'cos it's what I do... Any problems, you can find me, just ask Madmacs, lol..
Guys...
As Voltaire says, and Treggs, and any person who trades for a living... if you are unsuccessful in your trading, it is not because of the market, it is because of your reaction to it or calls against it.
Whether you like it or not ... 95% of trading the actual money down stuff, is psychology, and heaps of that is going to come down to your own personal psychology.
The other point that you need to understand here is that the XJO thread has a bunch of regulars on it, generally very strong analysts, be they cycle oriented or Resistance support oriented, pattern oriented, momentum oriented etc etc... the really good ones (eg Voltaire, Robbbb, Treggs JamesDoran etc etc) use all of this stuff to make money.
The regulars constantly chat to each other, and may be pursuing a particular set of ideas in conversations that go on for days or years and in some cases even decades.
Each one of the regulars has at some stage spent a considerable amount of effort, either on the thread, or in outside communications establishing the fact that they know their stuff...
This is a competitive world...
Having been reading this thread for three years, and posting for one, I am constantly seeing new names popping up who I have not read on this thread before, coming up with predicions and questions of "why the market so up" or "why the market so down" or "can you tell me when I should put my money on the market so I can make a bazillion dollars" or "why aren't you listening to me" or "I heard a cabbie say buy the world, is this good advice" etc etc etc.
Some of the names stick around, begin to contribute, and they give something to the thread, and the thread gives back.
This, my good friends, is the way that societies work, and the XJO thread is a little society... The whole of Hotcopper is a little society.
Now please understand, what you might interpret as arrogance in some of the more fantastic posters, is probably more distraction, as these posters may well have trades on, or be plotting to rule the world (mwahahaha) or be deep in a specific technical conversation with other posters.
Sometimes the regulars will answer new questions directly, but often enough, if you take the time to read the thread, you'll find the same questions being asked over and over again, and the same answers being provided.
Imagine if you had been posting on this thread for a decade, that's ten years folks, and had helped new posters on these threads ony once a day, with the same questions and statements... thats 3,650 odd same answers to the same questions...
People prolly get a bit weary after the tenth time.
Voltaire as an example, still answers the same questions he was answering ten or so years ago. and 99.9% of the time he answers them with good grace.
If the regulars on this thread upset you, maybe just read the thread, going back a couple of years and if you find you have a new point... present it, but don't expect that you will immediately be recognised.
Okay, this may seem arrogant to most...
But may I pose this question... If you walked into a pub, and there was a group of hard men and women talking animatedly amongst themselves in the corner, what kind of reaction do you think you would get if you waltzed up and started talking to them as though they should give you attention and look after your qquestions, and ideas etcetera when they don't even know you, and are busy enjoying each others company?
Answer that question honestly, and you will begin to understand the dynamics of posting and conversing on an established thread. It is like a pub. Sometimes the regulars are interested in new blood, sometimes they are not.
Don't get upset by it... it is the way humans socialise, and unfortunately an individual is not automatically accepted or cared for by an existing group.
There are two sides to this game folks... there is the trading side, and there is the human socialising/communication side.
Deal with both...lol
;)
ps I am not a regular.. I'm just the bloke that occassionally comes in, gets smashed, yells to himself in the corner and plays one game of brilliant pool, then pisses everyone off by trying to make friends, and throwing up on the barman. Luckily they tolerate me here most of the time, and I have a good relationship with the bouncers so they don't beat me up too much. lol
