''given the last 4 years of increasing wet weather, including floods in desert regions, it seems less likely.
we're a country surrounded by oceans. with oceanic warming our weather is looking increasingly humid. therefore I think we can expect increasingly severe wet weather.''
kinda sounds like instinctive common sense
but it is difficult to say -
the parts of Africa and WA aren't far from the coast and have warm waters and are dry as a chip ----
whilst I think you 'might be right' - and I feel there might be wild swings - it depends on the big climate drivers like currents and winds etc..
and for that - we wait.
To me - it's going to be whatever it is ---------- surely what's needed is to be able to survive - whatever it is.
So, to me - I'd be wanting to think about engineering - how could we possibly survive
in extremely long droughts
in long ongoing floods and sodden ground
in extreme heat
in very cold conditions
If we look about the world - droughts are a bugger to survive, extreme heat - hard, very cold? - well, extreme cold is difficult - but, many places with more than 'cold' climates - are very productive.
It seems to me that if one can come up with a new 'normal' - then, drought is the problem. - the rest of it - well, if you like rice or turnips - you'll probably do ok.
