Let’s be honest : everyone in power is pro-immigration. The Central Bankers that really run the world are pro-immigration, the mainstream right wing parties are to all intents & purposes pro-immigration (despite anything they may say to the contrary), the left wing parties are pro-immigration. It’s the only way to sustain ‘GDP growth’ and the house price bubbles.
Winston Peters in NZ ran on an intensely anti-immigration platform, as to a lesser extent did Labour. As soon as they got into power it was all forgotten. The old adage is ‘it’s the economy, stupid’. None of them dare risk a recession and the popping of the bubbles.
Don’t kid yourself: high immigration is here to stay until the whole (pseudo)capitalist system collapses. The bankers have destroyed us. They keep their huge profits, and the GFC showed that the losses will be born by nations and citizens. MMT is now the law that we will all suffer under.
