    That would be right...plus I guess the shear numbers of any one item that can be mass produced would reduce their individual cost to not much more than raw material costs.

    And that is of course is a large reason why much mass production ended up in China besides the cheap labour available. shutting down some manufacturing plants to centralising manufacture where there is a huge market nearby and cheap transport is a no brainer.

    Some European manufacturers have an advantage too in that something can be produced in Germany, loaded on to trucks or rail and shunted off to many different markets not geographically far away.
    Australia is comparatively a very small as well as an island market in itself, so has to export overseas which costs extra money as well as taking time and additional logistics.
