What an interesting conversation. Some really good points made. Sending one of our ships and a recon plane to the strait of Hormuz is no more than a gesture of good will towards the USA. Yes the US is probably the most aggressive modern day power, but that is how it got it’s power. Aggression. Australian governments have followed the US into every one of its conflicts since WWI. Without US naval and air power Australia would have most likely conceded to a land attack from Japan in WWII.
All wars and armed conflicts are horrible.
China is rising fast and the US doesn’t like competition, hence trade wars etc.
If anyone doesn’t think China is’nt licking their lips over the possibility of acquiring Australia as a strategic asset is delusional.
At this stage China still has to mind its p’s and q’s as the US still outmatches them militarily by a mile. Hence why Taiwan is still independent.
Do I like the fact Australia is sending military assets into the strait of Hormuz? No
But the US is still the big kid on the block and until that changes we have little choice.
