The Chinese now have a huge emerginging middle class who have had a taste of what the West has had for centuries - they all now want "stuff" and this stuff required a lot of energy and resources. They will acquire it from Australia one way or another - our politicians are an incompetent lot so the Chinese will probably do us over financially - indeed that is what they are doing now - if we wise up and make them pay for our goods - watch that space. Australia needs to develop its own deterrents to remain a viable independent economy. Independent of the Yanks, Chinese or anyone else for that matter - I am not expecting our polies to lead us into any kind of independence as in my opinion they are available to the highest bidder.
