Australian liquefied natural gas exports to Asia may be cheaper than shipments from the United States, according to an oil and gas consultancy, The Australian Financial Review reports.
According to the newspaper, RISC Advisory principal adviser Martin Wilkes said some hype around the US influence on Asian LNG prices was "self-serving", saying predictions Australia's LNG projects are under threat from the US are premature.
This would depend on changes in US gas prices and global crude oil prices, he said, adding that if crude oil prices fall below $US85 a barrel and US gas prices rise to $US5-6 per million British thermal units, US exports would likely not be cheaper than Australian LNG.
Last week, Texas LNG's Vivek Chandra, who leads a proposed LNG export project on the US Gulf Coast, said Australian LNG producers were failing to heed the effect US exports will have in Asia, the AFR reports.
