Australia were in trouble long before this test.
1. They pick Rob Quiney against South Africa because they didn't want to expose Hughes to the best team in the world according to the selectors. What kind of batsman is Hughes at 3 if you have to protect him. I don't ever remember the Aussie selectors having to protect Ponting.
2. Cowan too inconsistent
3. Warner as above
4. Watson too breakable
5. Hussey gone, and whilst Henriques performed well in this test, I have been watching him since his first class debut. Too inconsistent. Has one good day and several bad. On his bad days when he is batting you would think he is a specialist bowler and when he is bowling you would think he is a specialist batsman.
6. Bowlers are too hot and cold. When they are getting hammered they look like a high school cricket team. No creativity like they had when McGrath was there.
7. Lyon is not the answer. Richie Benaud keeps singing Lyon's praises but whilst I believe Benaud is a true legend of the game, he has got it wrong with Lyon.
8. India are not world beaters like they were two years ago. If Australia win this series it will be a false sense of security kind of like the Sri Lanka series. In my opinion the best chance Australia has at the Ashes is if they get flogged in India and wake up to themselves.
