Downer is correct about the necessity not to give in to terrorist demands. Every half-arsed government official knows that is the correct way to handle terrorism. Once you give in to demands it sets a precedent... "the thin end of the wedge". But that's obvious.

However Downer's "scary story" is not motivated by these concerns....its just pure propaganda.

Downer's "scary" tale could have been lifted straight from Nazi Germany. It is more shameless scare-mongering, pushed on Australians in order to engender a sense of Australian "collective unity" behind the government in the run up to the election. The Bush adminstration has set the precedent, the Australian government will now follow suit to win public opinion and votes - terrorise us with fantasy terrorism.

Downer is an inept, pompous fUckwit. He speaks like he is conducting some juvenile debating competition in the Adelaide Hills. "Lord Downer of Bagdad" doesn't even believe his own statements - his insincerity has been exposed many times through "behind the scenes" docos etc that have examined his life.

Expect more of this sh!t over the coming months.
