This was being called the biggest dog of all time when i first bought into AUN. First parcel as at 35c then more at on the way down at 15c then i bought the freebies at 20c, to give me a avg of 20c holding, i loved the two capital returns it paid for my initial investment and then some. Only thing i didnt do was sell at $1.80 around the top, held on to the good old girl just a little long and sold at 1.40. My main reasons for selling was the internet.
My thoughts were that eventually we would be receiving more and more content via the internet and that this would be the end to pay tv. Well that hasn't quite happened yet!!! But i can see that the foundations are all firming up for it to in the future. Fiber to the home gillard is laying out. 1Gbps speed capability, now this will mean you will be able to watch a bluray seamlessly online. Folks i never actually paid for Austar while i was a holder, misses one day came home and said of all things that they have a great deal going and we should subscribe, (me being a tv junkie Said) i would rather pay for more internet subscription and i will source more content available online than pay for Austar.
Once the NBN is up and running satellite based TV will be only something that the bush will only ever need, the 3% who wont be on fiber. I cant see much that management will be able to pull out of there hats for now or for the future that will deliver a OMG announcement any time soon.
Im not one that has ever shorted a position but this could well and truly be a possible candidate. The writing is on the wall holders.
