According to News Corp, the “AFP (was) left in dark on abuse inquiry”. Only one letter in 3 years was provided by AUSTRAC to Westpac and even then this has not been made public.
As well the then Minister Michael Keenan signed off on the Nicole Rose appointment as CEO of AUSTRAC in spite of better qualified candidates and “Nicole’s CV is a unique mix of appointments”. It suggests AUSTRAC has been found out with large scale embellishments and that AUSTRAC “said it would not be appropriate to comment on the Westpac matter while it is before the Federal Court”.
I susoect the fine for Westpac could be closer to zero and CBA’s Livingstone and Comyn might be asked to explain why they settled with a financial crime watchdog which in itself is under investigation?
