I for one see your comment as pretty reasonable, perhaps not coal. Renewable plus storage as the base [if not base load] with a modest amount of quick responding gas plants as the top up. Hopefully government owned gas plants , so that the temptation to game the systems minimised. This enables the renewables to used to their maximum efficiency , and makes over-building capacity less needed in renewables. At some point storage technologies catch up , gas fades away.
