There is no need to choose between the two. We have always stood with the US and we have always traded with China.
Even in war trade continues, but China does not want war it deals in buying assets in your country and applying persuasion to government bodies, it is not really interested in creating war. It responds to the constant US threat of trade sanctions by building its military and being the biggest holder of US debt bonds outside the US Fed. Imagine if China stops buying US debt bonds or worse dumps a couple of trillion usd of debt bonds on the market. It is the biggest power in the region and is currently the powerhouse economy of the world.
