Switzerland is a highly successful confederation with power distributed between multiple levels of government at federal and canton level. It performs extremely well across many economic and social factors.
it is highly democratic in its decision making, its capitalist but it also has a tradition of very communal thinking that is deeply entrenched across the country
so problems with democracy or social conditions are not about the specifics of a system - I think they have more to do with the mindset - the extent to which individualism dominates a country, power gets concentrated (and who gets that power)
australia might think it runs with mates taking care of each other but I think that’s long gone in most places. It is, whether or not it is recognised, a power based, hierarchical and individualistic society that has its feet deeply rooted in the past
