Philippine hospitality workers would be paid around $100 Australian a month but they do usually expect a tip for services provided unlike in Australia.
In the Phils a typical comfortable house with most mod-cons costs around $10,000 rum is $2.50 a bottle etc.
I have friends there who built a sprawling three story Spanish style hacienda fitted out with every modern convenience on an acre of land beside a white sand beach. They worked out the total cost, house and land to be about $70,000 Australian. An equivalent property here would be worth several million.
Very hard to compare Phils with Australia, so the bottom line is not so inescapable.
