Adelaide is to host a major biotechnology business conference in August.

South Australian Premier Mike Rann made the announcement from Washington, USA, today, saying that more than 1,000 people from around Australia and the world will attend.

Mr Rann says it will be a great opportunity to attract more high-level investment to the state's bioscience precinct at Thebarton, where $6 million is being spent to triple its size.

"Ultimately we see biotechnology, largely in the area of medicines, to be an opportunity for our graduates for the future, so that they can get their jobs, the graduates can get their jobs here in Adelaide, rather than having to go interstate or overseas," he said.
