I will start by stating I work very closely with some of the most disadvantaged Aboriginal in the country. I see, hear first hand , generational trauma, consequences of policies of the Government .
I want to hear from others but suffice to say... For me .. yes celebrate as a nation of all of us, and now very diverse, but NOT on the day that for many is traumatic.
For many does it make a difference Feb2, March 6, July 12... etc NO .. We Australians are very laidback, and not as Patriotic as Americans... If the truth be known all many want is to keep a paid holiday day
So what is the barrier to change the date??? is it because only 3 % of population is Aboriginal and we CAN over run and over rule them.. . That really sadly is the possible reason.
If we know and understand it DOES cause major trauma, why cant we re look and pick a date that we all get a day off as a day to celebrate all that we enjoy in this great country.
It seems we debate, debate, debate... but nothing changes... maybe its time for a change of mind and heart towards the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders that were her way before many of us
