If we were to move Australia Day from 26/2, I reckon a logical successor would be 1/1. Oz became a federation on 1/1/1901, the first day of the 20th century, and only then was the state endowed with the title “Commonwealth of Australia. Prior to that date, this was a collection of British colonies. Oh yeah, the public holiday. Tack a day in lieu after New Year’s Day.
