Why do politicians of the calibre of Gillard even bother trying to represent us overseas ? Her efforts in the USA have led to much humour and the main thrust of her little reported visit by the american media has concentrated on reports of vegemite and its taste.

President Obama tried to give her some creedence by repeating a prior statement that she was "charming".

"Mr Obama, who himself is taking a battering on the domestic front, talked up Ms Gillard, telling reporters that, when he first met her last year, he "was immediately charmed as I'm sure at least a good chunk of the Australian people are".

President Obama, to give him credit, also struggled to find a description for the past PM Rudd, he settled for,

"Obama describes Rudd as 'smart and humble'"

I'm thinking that any President of the USA - present and in the future, will be fervently hoping not to hear from any Australian PM.
