CANBERRA, June 28 (Reuters) - Australia's government said on Tuesday it has given environmental approval to Inpex Corp's Ichthys Browse Basin project, including a gas field facility, pipeline and processing facility, with strict environmental conditions
"After a thorough assessment, including expert advice and public submissions I have determined this project can go ahead under national environment law," Environment minister Tony Burke said.
Japan's Inpex proposes to develop the Ichthys Gas Field in the Browse Basin off the North West Shelf of Australia to produce 8.4 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and condensate each year. More than 70 percent of the project's output is expected to be delivered to Japan, the world's biggest LNG importer.
The project is 76 percent owned by Inpex with the rest held by France's Total SA . (Reporting by Rob Taylor; Editing by Ed Davies)
