thanks for taking your time to reply. My parents were amongst the postwar group you mentioned. And you're right, they lived with my mum's sister for 2 years before they saved for a house deposit. Bought their home located just 12 minutes from Melbourne CBD, and then paid off the loan off in less than 3 years. The difference then as to now, is they were stimulant to the economy - they didn't take, but contributed.
At least in my post I was right in one aspect: older people would probably 'not get' what I was on about. Amazing? To some!
