Where it falls down dismally is that it doesn't even try to explore 'how' -- which is the absolutely critical bit that governments and oppositions are missing.
Governments are like children - unless they can see a reason for doing something - they won't do it, at least no by their own motivation -
which, in the case of children is fairly smart -- of course, it's not like that all the time because they learn by mistakes --
but, governments aren't children - so, there is no excuse ---
nor is there an excuse for such people who write letters ---
a bonehead can tell you that there is no point in telling someone to do something - unless you provide a detailed explanation of why they should do it --- AND, in the case of governments today --- what, indeed, the government can get out of it.
there - the letter just fails - completely falls like a bothered souffle.
Australia has a surface problem -- it's revenue base --- but, what it is completely missing is how to grow that revenue - by, healthy and harmonious growth
it's fine to root out tax evasion etc. - but, it's not worth diddly squat unless you have a great solid plan for what to do with the proceeds - because - if you don't have that - and, a plan that gives you great, healthy solid growth - then, you will just be back where you were in the beginning
and, you just have to have that as your base plan -- there is no point going and raising the revenue base by catching what you are losing now - because, if you do that -- there is nothing to aim for besides just cutting debts and some motherhood statement crap like they have said in the letter -- what happens in reality is you just start wasting even more money
you need a plan --- a firm, strong, brave plan -- if you don't have it ---------- forget it
