Given the unbelievable weakness of political debate in Australia, and the willingness for some to vote for Clive Palmer, and that other misguided lot ,...the Greens, elected Govts have little chance of getting their policies implemented.
This leaves us in a position that is worse than in most other developed countries.
Our media focuses on the minutiae and not the bigger picture. They are more interested in Gotsha moments ,..... Like how much does a middy cost , and broken promises. Whilst there are probably broken promises , the biggest and most important promise was to balance the budget.
If things stay as they are , we are headed to a darker place where the world will judge us and make us change our ways .
Let's assume, that Abbot can't get much of his legislation through the senate and calls a double dissolution election. Assume Labor win , then they will be faced with the existing problem. They will probably try to hit the big miners and the so called wealthy, and will likely fail just as they did last time. When public servants and inexperienced politicians try to legislate , they leave many escape routes and avoidance tactics. In the meantime we are further down the tubes.
Labor and the Coalition have to work together to rid the Senate of some of the halfwits that are there.
At the end of the day , we still need to take some harsh measures to put the good ship Australia back on course .
