The idea that modern or future warfare would be recognisable as a conventional theatre is an odd one. Given that State's themselves really don't have the capacity to prevent non state actors from conducting hybrid warfare by themselves already ought to ring some bells. Unprepared for war? As are all. Whether it is acknowledged, or daily actions are perceived as hostile or not already, is seemingly irrelevant if there is no defensive response. Whether it be malware, ransomwear, crypto financing, short selling, fake news, catfishing, phishing, number spoofing, agriterrorism, ecoterrorism, history revisionistas, extinction anarchists, or my preferred public enemy - the nihilists, war is a daily reality. Oh, and then there are the apologists who may as well be white ants... not to mention terrorist operatives. Maybe the next or current war will likely involve bioweapons that target specific dna traits? Try to know your enemy, has anyone looked around to see just how many psychos are living on the planet already? How about we just give everyone the ability to push the button, isn't that the world we live in already? Seconds to midnight.
