As an anglo Australian, I think you may be right.
When I went to the UK it struck me how every monument was either to the monarch or to war. The culture of the place is set up for fighting war. The whole class system is all about getting people to go along with things and accept their role without questioning it. The working class are constantly at each other's throats, "X is getting on my nerves", living miserable lives, so going off to war and kicking the crap out of someone is a wonderful glorious escape.
Thus economic wars can be launched on spurious pretexts.
Australia came out of this culture but everyone is a lot more relaxed and happy, we basically just want everyone to love us. Danger is we just become everyone's pampered poodle. First we were the UK's poodle, then America's, will we be China's poodle, or will we grow up? Becoming a republic might help.
