but Dutton has changed the policy from SMRs now. perhaps because they aren't yet available except as bespoke builds.
I'm looking forward to seeing reports via the IAEA on the units in Russia and China. but SMRs don't need th active water supply, from my reading, and so should be more versatile and so be able to be fitted into localities, such as mining and refining, eg. aluminium, operations, manufacturing and major office buildings. large and small regional centres and even some cities. its a piecemeal approach but would enable the costs to be isolated to their specific needs and so costs could be balanced out better for ongoing structural planning.
the self-contained nature and reliability of SMRs would beat the ongoing cost of convention large reactors. the one-off cost of the modules would be spread over a decade or so.
but this is speculative as yet. keen to see how the Chinese units go. (I don't expect co-operation from Russia)
