This year's Australia Day is shaping up to be one of my family's most awkward days ever. My daughter in law is to receive her Australian citizenship certificate on Friday (Australia Day) at our local shire (luckily one of the few municipalities still choosing to celebrate the day). What should be an occasion of joy and pride has seriously been degraded by a changed community attitude, the like of which has never been seen any other year. I am seriously embarrassed for her............I'm seriously embarrassed for my country.

It's almost as if all three levels of government want to cancel Australia Day out of sheer bloody vindictiveness for losing the Voice Referendum. It certainly seems that way. I can honestly see no other reason for this year's palpable bitterness and division as we approach the day.

I myself have no problems with changing the date - just not convinced any other day will ever be acceptable to the serial malcontents that dictate our public policy today.
